Peter Tiehuis

Peter Tiehuis (born June 15, 1956 in Almelo ) is a Dutch jazz and fusion musician ( guitar ).

Live and act

Tiehuis started playing classical guitar at the age of nine; in addition, he soon played electric guitar in various rock and soul bands. Between 1974 and 1979 he received classical training at the Twentsch Conservatorium Enschede and jazz training at the Koninklijk Conservatorium The Hague .

He worked as a studio musician and was part of the Skymasters from 1981 to 1983 . He also played in Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass, Batida , the Chris Hinze Combination as well as Till Brönner's Ballad Joint and the Wolfgang Haffner Band. He has been a member of the Metropole Orkest since 1996 . He worked with Trijntje Oosterhuis , Lee Towers , Toon Roos , Ilse DeLange , Humphrey Campbell , Toots Thielemans , Benny Goodman , Freddie Hubbard , Stan Getz , Lee Konitz , Tania Maria , Al Jarreau , Tina Turner , Chaka Khan , Konstantin Wecker , Charlie Mariano , Vince Mendoza , Mike Stern , Bob Mintzer , the Yellowjackets , Jasper van't Hof , Elvis Costello , Gino Vannelli , the Brecker Brothers , Pat Metheny , Randy Crawford , George Duke , John Scofield , Herbie Hancock , Steve Vai and Ivan Lins .

Tiehuis has been part of Paul Berner's band since 2005. In 2007 he recorded the album Shaman Dance with bass guitarist Theo de Jong and percussionist Bart Fermy . In 2008 he formed the improvisation trio Frapear together with double bass player Frans van der Hoeven and drummer Arno van Nieuwenhuize . In 2012 he recorded the jazz and lyric production Standing Up Together with Ack van Rooyen and the New York poet Edward Field . In his quartet Tiehuis 4 he works with Karel Boehlee on keyboards, Theo de Jong on bass and Jasper van Hulten on drums.

Tiehuis has been a teacher at the Amsterdam School of Arts for more than 10 years .
