Chris Hinze (* the thirtieth June 1938 in Hilversum ) is a Dutch jazz - flautist , composer and music producer .

biography

Hinze began piano training at the age of twelve and studied the flute at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague . In 1969 he received a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston , where he completed courses in composition and arrangement.

In 1966 and 1967 he was a member of Dick van der Capellen's trio (as a pianist and flautist) . Then he founded his own bands with which he adapted classical music themes for the jazz flute . He has performed with James Moody , Paul Horn and Don Burrows at international jazz festivals, worked with Michael Gibbs in London and the Brecker Brothers in the USA and recorded the album Kings of Reggae with Peter Tosh in Jamaica . His jazz-rock production, Chris Hinze Combination, was presented at the Montreux International Jazz Festival in 1971 . In 1973 the Mission Suite was recorded for Philips with Sigi Schwab , John Lee and Gerry Brown . In the early 1970s he traveled to the countries of the Far East, where he worked with local musicians and, for example, recorded albums in Tokyo in 1974 with Hōzan Yamamoto . In the same year he went to India to learn to play the bamboo flute with Raghunath Seth .

In 1980 Hinze went on a tour with Sigi Schwab; in the same year her live album from the North Sea Jazz Festival and in 1983 the duo album Backstage appeared . In 1992/93 he visited Bhutan, Tibet, Thailand, China and Japan, at the end of the tour the Dalai Lama . He used parts of the recorded interview for the album Tibet Impressions , which was followed in 1997 by Tibet Impressions Volume II . In 1994 he visited India again, where the album Namaskar was made.

Hinze himself recorded more than fifty albums. In addition, he is also active as a music producer, he brought u. a. Albums by Jasper van't Hof , Kevin Eubanks , Charlie Mariano , Arto Tunçboyacıyan , Michal Urbaniak , Urszula Dudziak , the Brecker Brothers , Larry Coryell , Ann Burton , Toots Thielemans , John Lee and Gerry Brown as well as Zbigniew Seifert .

In 1972 Hinze was commissioned to compose a suite for the Holland Festival . The Live Music Now for forty-two instruments and string orchestra was awarded the 1974 Beethovenpreis the city of Bonn awarded. New York and Parcifal emerged as further symphonic works ; with Mangala he won the Prix ​​D'Italia .
