Criss Cross Jazz

Criss Cross Jazz is a Dutch jazz - label , which in 1981 by Gerry Teekens in Enschede was founded. The label mainly releases recordings by American jazz musicians.

The label initially brought out records by established jazz musicians such as Jimmy Raney , Warne Marsh , Kirk Lightsey . In the mid-1980s, Gerry Teekens relocated to the United States, where he worked with Rudy Van Gelder until the 1990s . Recordings were made by Kenny Barron , Benny Green , Ted Brown , as well as Brian Lynch , Ralph Moore , Mike LeDonne .

In the course of the 1990s, the label developed into a reservoir and chronicler of a young American jazz scene. The label released records by David Kikoski , John Swana , Walt Weiskopf , Jim Rotondi , Steve Davis , David Hazeltine , Conrad Herwig , Alex Sipiagin , Jonathan Kreisberg , Wycliffe Gordon . There were also albums by Christian McBride , Grant Stewart , Joe Magnarelli , Scott Colley , Ryan Kisor and Keyon Harrold . Many artists also played as studio musicians: Kenny Washington , Peter Washington , Billy Drummond , Eric Alexander , Chris Potter , Peter Bernstein , Bill Stewart , Tim Warfield and Joe Farnsworth .
The majority of the recording activities were overseen by the sound engineer Max Bolleman.

Gerry Teekens died on October 31, 2019 in his hometown of Enschede at the age of 83.
