Joseph Allen "Joe" Farnsworth (* 21st February 1968 in Holyoke , Massachusetts ) is an American jazz - drummer and bandleader of the hard bop .

Joe Farnsworth's father is trumpeter and band leader Roger Farnsworth ; one of his brothers played the saxophone in Ray Charles ' band. He studied at William Paterson College, took lessons from Harold Mabern and Art Taylor ; In 1990 he obtained a Bachelor of Music. In the following years he played with Junior Cook (1991), Jon Hendricks (1991), Jon Faddis (1992), George Coleman , Cecil Payne (1993), Annie Ross and Benny Green (1995). In the same year he was a member of the formation One for All with David Hazeltine and Jim Rotondi ; he also worked with Benny Golson , Steve Davis , Steve Grossman , Eric Alexander and Diana Krall (1999).
With Eric Alexander, Steve Davis, Eddie Henderson , Cedar Walton and Nat Reeves Farnsworth recorded his debut album Beautiful Friendship in 1999 for the Criss Cross label; In 2004 the album It's Prime Time followed (on 441 Records ), on which guest musicians such as Curtis Fuller , Ron Carter , Harold Mabern and Benny Golson participated. In 2003 he worked on Pharoah Sanders ' re-recording of The Creator Has a Master Plan ; he also worked with Brian Lynch , Bill Charlap and Mike LeDonne . In 2004 he played in Jerry Dodgion's band and in 2005 with Anthony Wonsey .
