Alex Sipiagin

Alex Sipiagin ( Russian Александр Анатольевич Сипягин , Alexandr Anatoljewitsch Sipjagin ; born June 11, 1967 in Yaroslavl ) is a Russian jazz trumpeter.

Live and act

Sipiagin played in a children's orchestra at the age of twelve. He attended the Moscow Music Institute and, after two years of military service, studied at the Gnessin Institute . In 1990 he won a jazz competition for young musicians in Rostov . In the same year he took part in the Corpus Christi Jazz Festival in Texas with a student jazz band .

In 1991 Sipiagin moved to New York, where he performed with the Gil Evans Band , in 1993 a member of Gil Goldstein's Zebra Coast Orchestra and in 1994 a member of the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band . He also performed with the band of drummer Bob Moses . In 1995 he became a member of the Mingus Big Band , and later the Mingus Dynasty and the Mingus Orchestra.

Since 2000 Sipiagin has also been a member of Dave Holland's big band ; In 2003 he also recorded with Michael Brecker's band. As a sideman he stepped u. a. with Eric Clapton , Dr. John , Aaron Neville and Elvis Costello , Michael Franks , Regina Litvinova and Dave Sanborn .

He is married to Monday Michiru .
