Eric Harland Du'sean (* 8. November 1978 in Houston , Texas ) is an American jazz - drummer .

Live and act

After his training at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, he was still performing on site, Wynton Marsalis noticed him at a workshop and he received a scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music in New York . He then studied theology at the Houston Baptist University (College of Biblical Studies) and is a pastor.

Harland played with several of the M-Base artists such as Greg Osby , Geri Allen , Jason Moran and Ravi Coltrane and performed in concerts with artists such as McCoy Tyner , Betty Carter , Dave Holland and Charles Lloyd ; with the latter he worked in the Trio Sangam with the tabla player Zakir Hussain. Eric Harland is a member of the SFJAZZ Collective and appeared on Aaron Park's Blue Note debut album Invisible Cinema . In the 65th annual Down Beat Readers Survey, he appeared in the list of the best drummers along with old masters like Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones . He has also worked on recordings for Terence Blanchard ( Wandering Moon , 1999), Liberty Ellman , Stefon Harris ( Black Action Figure 1999), Kenny Garrett , Rigmor Gustafsson , Mark Shim , Brett Sroka, John Swana , Gregory Tardy and the SFJazz Collective . Eric Harland has recorded 18 film scores with Terence Blanchard.

The New York Times ruled that "it sets the rhythm for the future of jazz".
