Jeff Hirshfield

Jeffrey Lee Hirshfield (born August 22, 1955 in New York City , New York) is an American jazz drummer.

Hirshfield grew up in Long Island . While still in high school, he had the opportunity to work with musicians such as Zoot Sims , Ray Nance , Charles McPherson and Clark Terry . He also had lessons from Ed Soph and Frankie Malabe .

From 1977 to 1988 he toured with Mose Allison , Woody Herman and others. Then he settled in New York again, where he u. a. performed and recorded with John Abercrombie , Fred Hersch , Randy Brecker , Jim Hall , Eliane Elias , John Zorn , Bob Belden and others. With Rainer Böhm and the Scottish bass player Aidan O'Donnell , he founded a trio that released the album Red Line in 2009 and toured Germany in 2010. He also recorded with Vi Juris , which can be heard on the albums Night Tripper (1995), Music of Alec Wilder (1996) and Remembering Eric Dolphy (1998).
