Scott Colley

Scott Colley (born November 24, 1963 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American jazz bassist .

Live and act

Colley began his training on bass at the age of eleven and was a student of Monty Budwig from 1976 . At the same time he practiced intensively with records by Paul Chambers and Charles Mingus . From 1979 to 1981 he performed in a duo with the pianist Jimmy Rowles . From 1984 to 1988 he studied at the California Institute of the Arts and also took private lessons with Charlie Haden and Fred Tinsley, bassists with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra .

From 1986 he worked with singer Carmen McRae . He also toured the USA and Europe with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie , Clifford Jordan , Roy Hargrove and Art Farmer . From 1991 to 1995 he worked with various bands a. a. under John Scofield , James Newton , Joe Henderson , Billy Hart , Mike Stern and Phil Woods . Until 1998 he performed with Joe Lovano , Jim Hall and Yoron Israel , worked in a trio with Ravi Coltrane and Al Foster , in a duo with Jim Hall and variously in quartet formations under Chris Potter , Renee Rosnes and Bob Berg , the sextet of Andrew Hill ( Dusk , 1999) and with Lan Xang .

Since 2000 he toured with the trio of Herbie Hancock (with the drummer Terri Lyne Carrington ), since 2004 also in the trio with Jim Hall and drummer Lewis Nash and with Chris Potter. In 2003, Initial Wisdom was his first CD as a band leader.
