Tineke Postma

Tineke Postma (born August 31, 1978 in Heerenveen ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( soprano and alto saxophone , composition).

Live and act

Postma began playing the saxophone at the age of eleven; in 1992 she was on stage with Candy Dulfer ; then she played in the Big Band Friesland . From 1996 to 2003 she studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and also at the Manhattan School of Music in New York . a. with David Liebman , Dick Oatts and Chris Potter . Her role models include Wayne Shorter , Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane . Already in 2003 she performed at the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Festival in Washington, the North Sea Jazz Festival , the Jazz Festival in Vienne and Umbria Jazz and with Fleurine . In 2013 she worked in a quartet with Greg Osby , Linda Oh and Dan Weiss .

Her albums For the Rhythm , A Journey that Matters and The Traveler were well received by critics in Down Beat , Rolling Stone or Jazzthetik . Postma's own compositions "testify to a bubbling wealth of musical ideas that is nourished by a love for the heroes of the genre".

Since 2005 she has been a lecturer at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

Prizes and awards

After the first Singer Laren Jazz Award (2002), Postma received the Sisters in Jazz All Star Award in 2003 and the Heijmans Award of the Amersfoort Jazz Festival in 2004 . In 2006 she received the MIDEM International Jazz Revelation of the Year Award , in 2009 the Antibes de Jazz Juan Revelations Award 2009 from Jazz à Juan . In 2015 she received the Boy Edgar Prize , the most prestigious Dutch award for jazz and improvised music.
