Singer Laren is a museum , a theater (originally a concert hall) and the Villa De Wilde Zwanen in Laren ( province of North Holland ).

history

In 1954, the Singer Memorial Foundation was established by Anna Spencer-Brugh (1878–1962), the widow of William Henry Singer (1868–1943), in order to maintain the Singer heritage and art collection. Under the direction of the architect Wouter Hamdorff from Laren, the renovation and extension of the Villa De Wilde Zwanen , the former home of Singer and Spencer-Brugh, took place. The museum was opened in 1956.

The Singer collection includes paintings from the Laren School , Hague School and Bergen School . It was expanded to include works of expressionism , neo-impressionism , pointillism , cubism and geometric abstraction .

The following artists are represented: Albert Neuhuys , Bart van der Leck , Eddy Roos , William Henry Singer, Hein Kever , Jan Sluijters , Evert Pieters , Jan Toorop , Ferdinand Hart Nibbrig , Lou Loeber , Mommie Schwarz , Chris Beekman , Leo Gestel , Gustave de Smet , Auguste Rodin , Else Berg , Herman Kruyder and Baruch Lopes Leão de Laguna .

Special exhibitions are held regularly in the museum.

Vincent van Gogh : The Parish Garden of Nuenen in Spring , oil on paper laid down on wood, 25 × 57 cm, 1884

On the night of March 30, 2020 was broken into the museum and the picture The parish garden of Nuenen in the spring of Vincent van Gogh stolen. The oil painting from 1884 was on loan from the Groninger Museum . The museum did not quantify the value of the stolen picture.
