Neo-impressionism

Neo-impressionism describes a style of painting . The term was coined by the critic Félix Fénéon in 1886 in an article for the Belgian magazine L'art Moderne . He wanted to distinguish Georges Seurat's painting style from that of the Impressionists .

The style was later to become known under the name Pointillism, coined by Paul Signac . Seurat, on the other hand, preferred the designation Divisionism (partition painting). Other Neo-Impressionists are Anna Boch , Henri Edmond Cross , Maximilien Luce and Théo van Rysselberghe .

Nowadays the term Neo-Impressionism is used synonymously for Pointillism , as well as overlapping with the terms Late, Post-Impressionism and Post-Impressionism .
