Ben Webster Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ben Webster Prize is a jazz prize awarded annually by the Ben Webster Foundation, which honors Danish or American jazz musicians or any other person who has made a name for himself as a supporter of jazz in both countries. The award is named after the American musician Ben Webster , who spent the last ten years of his life in Copenhagen and promoted the city's jazz scene. The foundation's prize money comes from Webster's annual royalties. In addition, an honorary award has been awarded (regularly in recent years).

The award is presented at a ceremony with its own concert and therefore takes place in a jazz venue , often the Jazzhus Montmartre , Søpavilionen , Copenhagen Jazzhouse , Dronningesalen of the Royal Library , the jazz club of the Free City of Christiania , Sofies Kælderen or Tivoli Gardens . The prize money is currently (2014) DKK 25,000.
