Jan Kaspersen (born April 22, 1948 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish pianist and composer of modern jazz .

Act

Kaspersen worked in Simon Spang-Hanssen's band in the 1970s and with his own formations, and in the 1980s with Fredrik Lundin and Stig Rossen . A Monk album ( Memories of Monk ) was created in 1986 in a trio line-up with Peter Darnstrup and Ole Rømer , and in 1991 the live album Live in Sofie's Cellar was created with the trumpeter Anders Bergcrantz and tenor saxophonist Bob Rockwell . In 1992 he recorded the duo album Ballads and Cocktails with Bob Rockwell . In the 1990s he worked with his Special Occasion Band and the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra , played in a duo with Horace Parlan ( Joinin 'Forces ) and recorded two solo albums with Monk interpretations in 1997; In 2002, interpretations of the works of Erik Satie followed .

As a composer he has worked for his own ensembles since the 1970s and has written music for the New Music Orchestra , Pierre Dørges New Jungle Orchestra , the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra , the Ny Dansk Saxofon Kvartet , the Strange Party Orchestra and for over 30 films and theater projects. In 2012 he received the Ben Webster Prize .
