Finn Ziegler

Finn Ziegler (born November 24, 1935 in Rødovre as Finn Ziegler Holm ; † December 10, 2005 in Brønshøj ) was a Danish jazz musician ( violin , vibraphone , composition).

Ziegler received classical academic training on the violin at the Kongelige Danske Conservatory of Music . Inspired by Svend Asmussen , he quickly found jazz.

Ziegler appeared alongside Ben Webster , Buddy Tate , Milt Jackson and with Svend Asmussen / Stuff Smith as well as with Karin Krog , Kenny Barron and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen . He led his own groups; his music has also been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and Michala Petri . He has also appeared in numerous other groups since the mid-1950s, initially with Finn Savery , Erik Moseholm and Ib Glindemann . He also worked with the radio jazz groups in the 1960s and with the Kansas City Stompers in the following decade . In the 1990s he played with Jan Kaspersen , the Jazzkapelmesterens Kapel and Klüvers Big Band and continued to appear frequently on radio and television. As a studio musician , he has contributed to numerous recordings; Tom Lord lists 57 recordings in the field of jazz between 1955 and 2004.

Ziegler received the Ben Webster Prize in 1993 . In 2003 he was awarded the Danish Django d'Or as “Master of Jazz” . He died after having an operation in his jaw for cancer.
