Michala Petri (born July 7, 1958 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish recorder player . She is active in historical performance practice as well as in the romantic and contemporary repertoire and in crossover projects. She made a decisive contribution to shaping modern recorder music, not least through world premiere recordings and numerous pieces that were composed especially for her.

Life

Michala Petri, daughter of the pianist Hanne Petri (* 1929) and the violinist Kanny Sambleben (* 1930), received her first recorder lessons at the age of three and was heard on Danish radio for the first time at the age of six. In 1968 she made her debut with an orchestra at Tivoli in Copenhagen. In the same year she began studying music with Ferdinand Conrad at the Hanover University of Music and Theater , as well as her international career in the Trio Petri, together with her mother on the harpsichord or piano and the cellist Gunnar Kvaran, whose part her brother David Petri took over from 1972 . She dropped out of school and acquired the knowledge necessary for the final exams through self-study.

After graduating from school at the age of 17, she gave a series of concerts in Denmark and England. After an appearance for the BBC in their Broadcasting House, she was offered a six-year contract with Philips , with which her regular musician career began. Michala Petri has received numerous prizes and has played with many well-known artists worldwide, including Claudio Abbado , Heinz Holliger , Pinchas Zukerman , James Galway , Gidon Kremer , Juri Baschmet , Keith Jarrett , Salvatore Accardo , Maurice André , Christopher Hogwood and Victor Borge . As a music editor, she edited works for the Danish Wilhelm Hansen Verlag and the German Moeck Verlag .

Michala Petri was married to the guitarist and lutenist Lars Hannibal (* 1951) from 1992 to 2006 , with whom she has also had an artistic partnership since then. Together they founded the OUR Recordings label for their musical releases in 2006 , which not least gives them greater artistic freedom. Her stepmother Oddvør Johansen is a well-known Faroese writer. Her step-grandmother Ingeborg Brams was a well-known Danish actress.
