Ib Glindemann

Ib Niels Carl Glindemann (born September 27, 1934 in Copenhagen ; † April 5, 2019 ) was a Danish jazz musician ( trumpet ), composer and one of the most famous orchestral conductors in Denmark.

Life

Ib Glindemann was the son of the accountant Erik Glindemann († 1974) and the hairdresser Aase († 1982). Before turning to music, he studied in the chemical industry.

Glindemann studied at the Royal Conservatory in Copenhagen from 1952 to 1956 . During this time he led the amateur big band Skyliners , with whom he played arrangements in the style of Stan Kenton . In 1956, as a theater musician, he led a sixteen-member big band with which the first recordings were made. In 1958 he became the music director of the " pirate station " Radio Mercur . Between 1962 and 1964 he was the director of Horsens Byorkester and then until 1968 directed the New Dance Orchestra of Danmarks Radio .

Then he focused on writing film music for 25 years ; for the American market he also produced sound carriers with music as a film. In 1994 he founded his own big band, with which he performed in Denmark and recorded five albums by 2009.

In 2005 he was awarded the Danish Django d'Or as an “excellent bandleader” .

On April 23, 1966 he married Kirsten Jeanette Pedersen (* 1947), the marriage later divorced. Ib Glindemann died on April 6, 2019 at the age of 84.
