Finn Savery (born July 24, 1933 ) is a Danish musician who has emerged in both jazz and classical music.

Live and act

Savery is a son of the pianist and music teacher Carl Maria Savery (1897–1969). Between 1953 and 1960 he studied classical music at the Royal Danish Conservatory ; he also attended the Darmstadt summer courses and was inspired by Pierre Boulez . As a jazz pianist and vibraphonist , he played in various Danish jazz bands, initially with Max Brüel . The music of his own octet was partly shaped by his own third-stream compositions such as Dualism (1961). In 1962 he directed the performances of the musical Teenage Love by him and Ernst Bruun Olsen, for which he also arranged. He wrote compositions for theater, television and film, but also some serial compositions. In the 1970s he wrote the cantata Again and Again (1971), but also children's songs. For his trilogy Ringlek, Psalm and Kringellek (1974–1977) he resorted to folk melodies.

As a jazz musician, he led a trio with Mads Vinding and Bjarne Rostvold , in which he first explored the sound of the synthesizer and then the music of Airto Moreira and Milton Nascimento . He also worked with Erik Moseholm and the Danish Radio Jazz Group , with Jørn Elniff and Marilyn Mazur . As a pianist he also performed his own classical compositions.
