Bergcrantz is different

Anders Bergcrantz (born December 5, 1961 in Malmö ) is a Swedish jazz trumpeter .

Live and act

Bergcrantz grew up in a musical family and has played the trumpet since 1976: his father Sven Bergcrantz (1931–1998) was a jazz pianist; his older brothers Thomas and Hakan played drums and tenor saxophone. He first received lessons from Tim Hagans and then at the music high school in his hometown. In 1980 and 1981 he studied at the Berklee College of Music and then continued his education at the Malmö Conservatory until 1983. Already during this time he played more and more nationally, for example in his father's quintet (together with the older brothers). In 1986 he founded his own band with which he also made international tours; he also played with Michael Brecker and the Tolvan Band , with whom he also appeared at the Montreux Jazz Festival . In 1990 he had a two-week guest appearance at Ronnie Scott’s ; in 2000 he was a guest soloist at New York's Carnegie Hall . During these years he toured with Cæcilie Norby in Japan and with Billy Harper in Scandinavia and performed with Benny Golson in Italy. At the music festival Nordischer Klang in Greifswald he performed a concert by his wife, the composer and singer Anna-Lena Laurin.

He also performed with musicians such as Richie Beirach , Arne Domnerus , Dizzy Gillespie , Lee Konitz , McCoy Tyner and Carla Bley and was on albums by u. a. Lars Danielsson , Dave Liebman , Lennart Åberg , Cæcilie Norby, Amanda Sedgwick and the Tolvan Big Band involved.

Prizes and awards

For his album In this Together he received the Gyllene Skivan in 1995 ; he was also nominated for the Nordic Culture Prize . In 2009 he was awarded the Django d'Or (Sweden) as a “contemporary jazz star” .
