The BSA Academy is a German distance learning school with its headquarters in Saarbrücken . It has 21 training centers in Germany and two in Austria. The focus of the courses is in the fields of prevention , fitness , sport and health .

The sister company is the state-recognized, private German university for prevention and health management .

History of BSA

The BSA Academy was founded in 1983. In 1983 the first course for the "Fitness Trainer B license" took place in Munich. The courses have been tested and approved by the State Central Agency for Distance Learning (ZFU) since 1987 . Since 1988, courses for members of the armed forces have been funded through a cooperation with the Bundeswehr vocational advancement service . The branch in Leipzig was founded in 1989. The head office has been in Saarbrücken since 2004 on the grounds of the Hermann Neuberger Sports School . In 2006 the BSA Academy was checked and certified by QUARCERT, an independent certification company . In 2009 the BSA Academy was certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008 . Since then, recertification has taken place at regular intervals.

She now offers more than 70 different part-time qualifications (as of October 2019). By January 2012, over 140,000 participants had completed BSA courses. It has more than 250 employees at 21 training centers in Germany and two training centers in Austria. The employees include distance teachers, lecturers and course developers as well as the permanent employees at the headquarters in Saarbrücken.

Courses, degrees and licenses

Knowledge is acquired through distance learning and presence phases at the course centers. Distance teachers are available to the participants at the head office by phone or email to clarify technical questions or to discuss exam assessments. Depending on the course, the participants finally put their acquired knowledge to the test in a written, practical and / or oral final examination.

The Chamber of Commerce (CCI) of the Saarland developed in 1997 in collaboration with the BSA academy with fitness administrator Chamber of Commerce , the first and 2006 with the business administrator for prevention and health promotion , the second business administrator exam in the gym.

Since 1997, under certain conditions, the preparation for the fitness specialist exam has been given financial support in accordance with the Advancement Training Assistance Act (Meister-BAföG), the Federal Employment Agency and the educational bonus. Since 2007, the preparation for the examination to become a specialist in prevention and health promotion has been eligible for funding from the Bildungsscheck NRW and other regional funding in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Lower Saxony.

In 2008, the BSA Academy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of the Saarland, developed the course “Manager for swimming pools”, the content of which is based on the “Gepr. Master for swimming pools "prepared. In 2010, the IHK certificate course "Specialist for occupational health management (IHK)" was developed. Since 2012, the BSA Academy has offered the qualification for "UVSV specialist". According to the UV Protection Ordinance (UVSV), certified specialists have been required by law since December 1, 2012 for the operation of UV radiation devices (" solariums "). The qualification optimally prepares for such a personal certification. The certification is carried out by BSA-Zert, the independent certification body of the BSA Academy.

It also offers courses in the areas of fitness / individual training, fitness / group training, management, nutrition, health promotion, relaxation, pool operations and UV protection. In the area of ​​basic qualifications, B licenses are available as basic qualifications in all departments. A “professional level” qualification can be obtained by completing several advanced courses. Participants who have completed a basic qualification, two advanced courses and two further BSA qualifications can have the “BSA Personal Trainer Certificate” issued.

By studying at the German University for Prevention and Health Management, the sister company of the BSA Academy, it has been possible since 2006 to complete bachelor's degrees in fitness, health, management and exercise, which are recognized in 40 European countries.

Awards

From 2001 to 2018 the company was awarded the “Bodylife Award” in the educational institutions category by the specialist magazine Bodylife every year.

Cooperations and partnerships

The BSA Academy works with industry representatives and companies in the fitness and health sector. These include B. the DSSV ( German Sport Studio Association ), the DIFW (German Industry Association for Fitness and Wellness eV), EHFA (European Health and Fitness Association), QUALITOP and SAFS (Swiss Academy of Fitness & Sports). The BSA Academy is a member of the Forum DistancE-Learning association. This network is supplemented by numerous collaborations. In September 2010, the BSA Academy, in cooperation with its sister company and the DSSV, started the “Health in the company yourself” initiative. This is communicated by the Federal Association of German Employers' Associations (BDA) as part of its work on workplace health promotion.
