Simon Spang-Hanssen
Simon Spang-Hanssen (born April 13, 1955 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz saxophonist.
Live and act
Spang-Hanssen has been playing the saxophone since 1970 and became a member of John Tchicais Strange Brothers in 1976 . In 1978 he founded his first quartet Spacetrain with Ben Besiakov , Jesper Lundgaard and Alex Riel . In the same year he received the Ben Webster Prize . In the next few years he worked with musicians such as Ole Rømer , Jan Kaspersen , Peter Danstrup, Pierre Dørge , Doug Raney , Marilyn Mazur , Chuim, Mozar Terra, Attila Engin, Okay Temiz and the group Voodoo Gang from Cameroon. In 1983 he became a member of the band of the Brazilian drummer Nenê , with whom he toured Denmark and France and recorded two albums.
In 1985 he went to Paris, where he performed with his own groups, musicians such as Andy Emler , François and Louis Moutin , Denis Badault , Ramuntcho Matta, Nguyên Lê and Édouard Ferlet , and the Orchester National de Jazz (1991-94). In 1995 he founded the quintet Maneklar with Mariane Bitran , Ole Theill, Peter Danstrup and Jakob Andersen.
In 1998 Spang-Hansen returned to Copenhagen, where he played with the band Central Earth (with Bjarne Roupé , Henrik Sveidahl and Jesper Sveidahl, Poul Reimann, Fredrik Lundin , Marc Davis and Anders Mogensen , 1998), the Simon Spang-Hanssen Quartet (with Thomas Clausen , Jesper Lundgaard and Billy Hart , 1999), the Flower Machine quartet (with Thomas Agergaard , Klavs Hovman and Marilyn Mazur, 2000) and the afro-jazz quartet Eer Witness (with Felix Sabal-Lecco, Emil Spányi and Linley Marthe , 2001).
