Ben Besiakov , also Ben Besiakow , (born October 27, 1956 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish jazz musician ( piano , keyboard ).

Live and act

Besiakov that in elementary school on trumpet , flute and guitar was taught, but on the piano, a self-taught is adopted as a teenager at the jam sessions in Copenhagen Club La Fontaine , where he with people like Johnny Griffin , Dexter Gordon and Finn Ziegler played . He was also friends with Ben Webster , who became his mentor. In 1969 he had his first professional appearance with this at the Jazzhus Montmartre , where he later played with Al Foster , Richard Boone , Champion Jack Dupree and James Moody .

With Mikkel Nordsø, Kasper Winding and Aske Bentzon, he founded the first Danish Latin rock group, Buki Yamaz, in 1972 . Since the early 1970s he has also been a member of rock jazz groups such as Creme Fraiche, Engine, Soul Service and Space Train .

Besiakov continued to work with Johnny Dyani , Tomas Franck , Joe Henderson , Celso Mendes, Cæcilie Norby , Adam Nussbaum , Conny Sjöqvist, Steve Swallow and Kristin Korb . With his own trio, but also with Doug Raney , he has been recording albums since the early 1990s (initially for SteepleChase Records ). He also belonged to the groups of Bent Jædig , Jonas Johansen, Uffe Markussen and Jens Winther . He can also be heard on albums by Mikkel Nordsø, Debbie Cameron ( New York Date ), Jesper Thilo ( West Coast Blues ) and Jakob Dinesen ( Lady with a Secret ).

In 1990 he was awarded the Ben Webster Prize and in 1992 the Prize of the Association of Danish Jazz Journalists, JASA.
