Ray "Bulldog" Drummond (born November 23, 1946 in Brookline , Massachusetts ) is an American jazz bassist .

Live and act

Ray Drummond already played bass as a teenager, initially not opting for a career as a musician, but from 1974 studied economics at Stanford University , which he completed with an MBA in 1977 and played in the Stanford Jazz Workshop . But then he returned to the bass again, became a professional musician and, since the 1980s, a sought-after accompanist for countless record sessions. He has worked on recordings for the Art Farmer / Benny Golson Jazztet , as well as with Stan Getz , Johnny Griffin , Tom Harrell , Dusko Goykovich , Hank Jones , Lee Konitz , Wynton and Branford Marsalis , David Murray , the Sonny Clark Memorial Band , and Pharoah Sanders , James Spaulding and Richard Wyands ( As Long as There's Music , 2001). He also starred on recordings by Renee Rosnes and the (unrelated) Billy Drummond under the title The Drummonds and released a number of albums under his own name with guest musicians such as Kenny Barron , Craig Handy , John Hicks , Branford Marsalis and Joe Lovano .
