Ron McClure
Ronald Dix "Ron" McClure (born November 22, 1941 in New Haven , Connecticut) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , composer ).
Live and act
From the age of 5, McClure first played the piano and then the accordion. He switched to bass in the school band. Further training takes place at the Conservatory and the University of Connecticut and was supplemented by private studies with Hall Overton and Don Sebesky . Through Mike Mainieri , McClure joined Buddy Rich's sextet (1963/64). He later worked with Maynard Ferguson , Herbie Mann , Don Friedman , Marian McPartland (1965/66) and Wynton Kelly . At the beginning of 1967 he switched to the quartet of Charles Lloyd , with whom he also toured through Western and Eastern Europe. In 1968 he played with John Handy and recorded with Jerry Hahn , to be one of the founders of the group The Fourth Way with Mike Nock and Michael White , with whom he also performed at the Newport Jazz Festival . He was also involved in the recording of Escalator over the Hill and worked with Joe Henderson , Dionne Warwick , Gary Burton , Thelonious Monk , Keith Jarrett and Tony Bennett . Between 1974 and 1976 he was a member of Blood, Sweat & Tears ; During this time he was also involved in Michael Mantler's recording of Silence . He then played with Jack DeJohnette , Dave Liebman , Attila Zoller and George Russell . In the mid-1980s he worked for Al Di Meola , Michel Petrucciani and Paul Bley .
With Richie Beirach and Adam Nussbaum , McClure formed a trio in the late 1980s, which was partially expanded to include John Abercrombie . Since the 1990s, in addition to working with her own groups and Quest, there have also been projects with Karlheinz Miklin and Fritz Pauer , Randy Brecker , Lee Konitz , Richie Beirach and Rick Margitza .
