Don Sebesky
Donald J. Sebesky (born December 10, 1937 in Perth Amboy , New Jersey ) is an American jazz musician ( arranger , trombonist ) and composer .
Live and act
Don Sebesky first played in the big band of Tommy Dorsey , which was continued by Warren Covington , with whom he had trombone lessons for three years. In addition to studying composition at the Manhattan School of Music , he played with Claude Thornhill , Kai Winding , Maynard Ferguson and Stan Kenton . In 1960, Sebesky decided to give up active gaming and concentrated on arranging things, working for Ferguson, Carmen McRae , Wes Montgomery , Buddy Rich , Hubert Laws , Freddie Hubbard , Roberta Flack , Ron Carter , among others . In 1975 his textbook "The Contemporary Arranger" was published. In 1979 he presented his symphonic composition "Three Works for Jazz Soloists and Symphony Orchestra". Sebesky also wrote film music . But he also played albums under his own name, such as "Full Cycle" (1984) or "Our Love Is Here To Stay" (1999).
In 2000 he won a Grammy for “best instrumental composition in jazz” with his Joyfull Noise Suite . In 1999 he received a Grammy for his arrangement of the Bill Evans composition "Waltz for Debby".
