Jeff Williams (born July 6, 1950 in Mount Vernon , Ohio) is an American modern jazz musician ( drums , composition) .

Live and act

Williams played in local bands from the age of fourteen before studying at Berklee College of Music in 1968 . In the 1970s he was part of Stan Getz's band and the Dave Liebman Quintet, and in the 1980s he was part of Frank Tusa's band. He also played with Lee Konitz (five albums, including Lunasea , 1992). In 1991 he worked with bassist Marc Johnson on Paul Bey's trio album Paul Plays Carla . In 1991 the album Coalescence was created under his own name , which Williams recorded with his own compositions for the SteepleChase Records label and on which the saxophonists Tim Ries , Pat Zimmerli and Kevin Hays participated. From 1992 he was part of Joe Lovano's band , with whom he was also in Europe and performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival . In the 1990s he also worked on recordings for Ron McClure , Kevin Hays, Ethan Iverson , Misako Kano , Mike Richmond , Peggy Stern and Roberta Piket , and later for Hans Koller and Michael Gibbs . With John O'Gallagher and Masa Kamaguchi he recorded the album Dirty Hands (Clean Feed, 2008). In 2013 he presented the album The Listener , as did the previous album Another Time (2011) with Duane Eubanks , John O'Gallagher and John Hébert ; His album Outlier (Whirlwind Recordings, with Josh Arcoleo, Phil Robson , Kit Downes , Sam Lasserson) followed in 2016, and Lifelike in 2018 .

Jeff Williams is married to the American writer and journalist Lionel Shriver .
