Patrick Zimmerli

Patrick Zimmerli (* 1968 in New York ) is an American tenor saxophonist and composer of modern creative and contemporary music .

Patrick Zimmerli attended high school in West Hartford , Connecticut and worked in the New York jazz scene from 1986; In the early 1990s a. a. with drummer Jeff Williams . Since 1995 he has recorded a number of albums for the Songlines and Arabesque labels with his trio with guitarist Ben Monder and drummer Satoshi Takeishi . In 1996 he worked with the Jazz Composers Collective, for which he wrote Twelve Sacred Dances .

In the 2000s Zimmerli concentrated his activities more on composing; he wrote chamber music for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and composed for Kevin Hays and Brad Mehldau . In 2007 Zimmerli wrote eight pieces for cello , piano , percussion and electronics for cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper ( Stone & Steel, Koch 2008); also a piece for solo violin. Zimmerli also worked for radio, TV and film productions.

From 2002 to 2005 Zimmerli was composer in residence with the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra. His music was u. a. performed in MoMA and in the Guggenheim Museum .

Zimmerli taught at Columbia University , where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1990 , his master 's degree in 1996 and his Doctor of Music Arts in 2000 .
