John O'Gallagher

John O'Gallagher (* 1964 in Anaheim ) is an American musician ( alto saxophone ).

Live and act

John O'Gallagher learned alto saxophone while at school in Spokane. After graduating from high school, he briefly studied at Eastern Washington University , before moving to the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he had lessons from Joe Viola , Jerry Bergonzi and George Garzone . In the following years he worked in New York City with his own band projects, also with Joe Henderson , Maria Schneider , Kenny Wheeler , Billy Hart , Tony Malaby , Jeff Williams , Tom Rainey , Chris Cheek , Ralph Alessi , Rudresh Mahanthappa and Michael Formanek . In 2003 he presented his debut album Abacus (Arabesque Recordings), on which Johannes Weidenmüller , Jeff Hirshfield , Ben Monder and Russ Lossing had collaborated. In 2004, the trio album Rules of Invisibility Vol. 1/2 ( CIMP , with Masa Kamaguchi and Jay Rosen ) followed; 2008 Dirty Hands and 2012 The Anton Webern Project ( Whirlwind Recordings , with Johannes Weidenmüller, Tyshawn Sorey , Pete McCann , Russ Lossing, Matt Moran and the singer Margret Grebowicz ). Recordings were also made a. with the Samo Šalamon Bassless Quartet , the Brooklyn Sax Quartet , and Timuçin Şahin , also with Johannes Weidenmüller and Michael Janisch . In the field of jazz he was involved in 51 recording sessions from 1993 to 2017.
