Timuçin Şahin
Timuçin Şahin (born February 3, 1973 ) is a Turkish jazz guitarist and composer .
Live and act
Sahin played rock guitar during his school days in Izmir . In 1992 he moved to the Netherlands, where he studied jazz guitar at the Hilversum and Amsterdam conservatories. He then studied classical composition in Amsterdam and at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
As a sideman he worked with musicians such as Randy Brecker , Greg Osby , Kai Eckhardt , Mike Mainieri , Mark Turner , Tony Moreno , Aydın Esen , Gene Jackson , Dave Kikoski , Ernst Reijseger , Armando Gola , Donny McCaslin , Thomas Morgan , Sean Rickman and Marcel Wierckx .
With his jazz trio On the Line (with Robin Eubanks and Hein van de Geyn ) he won the Dutch Jazz Competition in 2001 , and in the following year he received second prize at the Jur Naessens Muziek Prijs . In 2006 he received second prize at the Deloitte Jazz Award for his music performed by the Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra .
Şahin currently leads a quartet with saxophonist John O'Gallagher , bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Tyshawn Sorey . In 2009 he performed at the Moers Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival . He teaches jazz guitar and composition a. a. at the Manhattan School of Music , New York University and the Conservatories of Amsterdam and Tilburg.
