BC Manjunath

BC Manjunath (* 1976 in Karnataka ) is an Indian mridangam player who is just as active in the field of Indian classical music as he is in jazz and world music.

The son of the mridangam player BK Chandramouli studied a. a. at KN Krishna Murthy and TK Murthy and worked with Indian musicians such as Sangeetha Kalaratna , RR Keshavamurthy , HP Ramachar , Mysore M. Nagaraj and Mysore M. Manjunath , Suma Sudhindra and N. Ravikiran .

After appearing in South India he toured a. a. in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and South Korea, numerous European countries, Egypt, the USA and Canada. He met with the Turkish Sufi singer Kani Karaka , the Italian cantautore Lucio Dalla , the American trombonist Robin Eubanks , the dancer Akram Khan from Great Britain, the Italian Bibiena Quintet and the composers Rafael Reina and Riccardo Nova . He also jammed in 2006 in Bangalore with Wolfgang Haffner and his quartet.

Manjunath teaches Mridangam at the music school his father founded and gave workshops at the Amsterdam Conservatory , the International Dance Festival in Vienna and festivals in Sydney and Altamura. In 2003 he performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival .

Prizes and awards

In 2002 he received the Ananya Yuva Puraskar , which is awarded to talented percussionists from Karnataka . In 2005 he received the CMANA Award .
