Tony Moreno

Tony Moreno is an American jazz drummer.

The son of the harpist and musicologist Nina Dunkel Moreno , a student of Nadia Boulanger , had piano lessons at the Dalcroze School of Music in New York from the age of four and had his first drum lessons with Stan Koor at the age of ten . From age eleven to seventeen he was a student of Elvin Jones at the Professional Percussion Center .

After attending the Manhattan School of Music, he lived and worked in Europe for six years. He kicked u. a. with Dave Phillips , Freedance (with John O'Gallagher and Rez Abbasi ) and Jürgen Friedrich's trio (with John Hébert ). Between 2005 and 2007 he toured Germany, Switzerland and the USA with Friedrichs Trio and Dave Liebman . He continued to play with the Timuçin Şahin - Greg Osby Quartet, the Jean-Michel Pilc Trio, Art Lande , and the Fred Favarel Quartet.

He recorded several albums in a trio with Bruce Arnold and Ratzo Harris ; the group also performed in Moscow in 2005 and 2006. Moreno is also a member of the quartet of Kendra Shank (with Frank Kimbrough and Dean Johnson ) and the group Global Motion (with Marc Mommaas , Nicolaj Hess and John Hebert). He has also written film scores and teaches jazz at New York University and Columbia University .
