John McKenna
John McKenna ( 1855 - March 1936 ) was an Irish football official , football coach, entrepreneur and rugby player .
biography
McKenna, along with his colleague William E. Barclay, was Liverpool FC's first coach . He was a millionaire and was a relatively successful rugby player at a sporting level . He had very good relationships with various club bosses, whether in England or Scotland , which sold him great Scottish talents. McKenna was also instrumental in ensuring that Liverpool FC was included in the top English division. Under his leadership, the Reds played their first championship game against Middlesbrough Ironopolis on September 2, 1893 and promptly won it 2-0.
