David "Dave" Phillips (born August 14, 1987 in Beverley , England ) is a British ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the Elite Ice Hockey League since 2016 .
Career
Dave Phillips began his career as a hockey player in the 2002/03 season with the Kingston Jets in the English National Ice Hockey League . The defender then moved to the Hull Stingrays , with whom he first played in the British National League and the English Premier Ice Hockey League in the following years , before running up for Hull in the Elite Ice Hockey League from 2006 to 2008 . For the 2008/09 season, the right-shooter was committed by Hull's league rivals Belfast Giants . With the Northern Irish, he immediately won the EIHL Challenge Cup and the EIHL Knock Out Cup.
In the summer of 2009 Phillips signed a contract with the Rockford IceHogs from the American Hockey League . For the farm team of the Chicago Blackhawks he played a total of 56 games in the 2009/10 season , in which he prepared six goals. He also came on loan to six appearances for the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL . The British international, who made history as the first player to start ice hockey in Great Britain and make it into the AHL, joined the Chicago Wolves for the 2010/11 season within the AHL . In his first year with the Wolves, he played mainly for Chicago's ECHL farm team Toledo Walleye, as well as for their ECHL league rival Gwinnett Gladiators . He also played repeatedly on loan for the AHL team of the Lake Erie Monsters .
For the 2011 season of the Australian Ice Hockey League , which takes place during the summer break of North American ice hockey, the Phillips twins signed a contract with the Adelaide Adrenaline . For the team, Dave Phillips scored four goals in six games and also provided an assist. For the 2011/12 season he returned to his British homeland and first signed a contract with the Coventry Blaze from the Elite Ice Hockey League, before returning a season later to his former club and league competitor Belfast Giants. In 2014 he was able to win the EIHL main round with the Northern Irish and become British champions . After a year at Manchester Storm , he has been playing for the Sheffield Steelers since 2016 , with whom he won the EIHL playoffs in 2017.
International
For Great Britain, Phillips took part in the junior division of the U18 World Championships in 2004 in Division II and in 2005 in Division I as well as in the U20 World Championships in 2006 in Division II and in 2005 and 2007 in Division I.
In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in Division I in 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009, 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 , 2017 and 2018 , when he was promoted to with the British for the first time after relegation in 1994 the highest performance level of the world championships succeeded. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 , Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 .
