British champion (ice hockey)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British ice hockey champions have been determined annually in various forms since 1930 and since 1966. The championship had different names: Patton Cup , Icy Smith Cup , Heineken Championship or Sekonda or bmiBaby Playoff Championship .

The best eight teams in the Elite Ice Hockey League are currently playing the championship in playoff mode. The quarter-finals are played as a home and away leg. The semi-finals and finals are played in a Final Four over a weekend at the National Ice Center in Nottingham .

As a rule, however, the league championship, i.e. winning the highest British league, is considered more important. This entitles z. B. to participate in the European Champions Hockey League .
