The Murrayfield Racers were an ice hockey club founded in 1952 as Murrayfield Royals in the city of Edinburgh in Scotland .
The Racers became British champions in 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972 and won the championship of the British Hockey League in the 1986/87 and 1987/88 seasons . They played from 1982 to 1995 in the Premier Division of that league. They also won the Northern League seven times (1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1979, 1980 and 1981) and the Benson & Hedges Cup in 1993 .
In the mid-1990s, the Murrayfield Racers became the Edinburgh Racers , which was renamed back to the original club name Murrayfield Royals a year later . As its successor, the Edinburgh Capitals were founded in Edinburgh in 1998 and played in the Elite Ice Hockey League until 2018 .
