Sean Conly

Sean Conly (* 1970 ) is an American jazz bassist ( double bass , electric bass ).

Life

Conly grew up in the Kansas City area and first attended the Conservatory of the University of Missouri – Kansas City ; in addition, he occasionally played with the local greats Ahmad Alaadeen , Jay McShann or Claude "Fiddler" Williams . In 1992 he continued his studies on the double bass with Rufus Reid and Todd Coolman at William Paterson University. In 1994 he moved to New York City and began his career with Russ Lossing , Andrew Hill , Ray Barretto and Freddie Hubbard . He toured with Cedar Walton , Randy Brecker , Howard Alden and Lew Tabackin as the Newport Millennium Celebration in 2000 . He released two albums under his own name, Re: Action ( Clean Feed Records , 2008) with Michaël Attias , Tony Malaby and Pheeroan AkLaff and the duo album Think Shadow with Attias . In 2012 he worked in the formation Grass Roots (with Alex Harding , Darius Jones , Chad Taylor ; album of the same name on AUM Fidelity ), in 2013 he performed with Ingrid Laubrock's band Anti-House . In the field of jazz, Conly participated in 54 recording sessions between 1994 and 2016, including a. with Mark Buselli , Anthony Coleman ( Lapidation ), Yoron Israel , Gregory Tardy ( Abundance , 2001), Mara Rosenbloom and Joel Harrison ( Free Country , 2003). In 2018 he released the album Hard Knocks (Clean Feed). He lives in New York City, where he works as a musician, composer and arranger.
