Darius Jones

Darius Jones (* 1979 in Virginia ) is an American jazz - saxophonist and music producer .

Live and act

Jones initially lived in Richmond, Virginia , where he played with live electronics engineer Marty McCavitt in the duo Birds in the Meadow in the mid-2000s . After moving to New York City, he worked in various musical genres, such as electro-acoustic music, chamber music, and jazz, with dance ensembles in multimedia projects. Jones played u. a. in the Cooper-Moore Trio and in band projects with Mike Pride , Nioka Workman , William Hooker , Trevor Dunn and Lewis Barnes ; he also worked a. a. with Andrew D'Angelo , Oliver Lake , William Parker , Jim Black , Nate Wooley , Lisle Ellis , Rob Brown , Matthew Shipp and Warren Smith . As a producer, he worked for the Korean jazz vocalist Sunny Kim and for the country folk singer Mary Bragg .

In his own band project Little Women he worked with Travis Laplante , Ben Greenberg and Jason Nazary , with whom he recorded the album Teeth on Sockets . In 2012 he worked in a trio with Ryan Sawyer and Shahzad Ismaily as well as in the formation Grass Roots (with Alex Harding (bar), Sean Conly (b) and Chad Taylor ), in 2014 in the Tarbaby quartet with Orrin Evans , Eric Revis and Nasheet Waits . With Kevin Ray , Omar Kabir (trumpet) and Lloyd Haber (saxophone) he recorded the album Spirits Awake in the Freedom Art Quartet in 2018 .

Jones is a Van Lier Fellowship recipient .
