Ryan Sawyer

Ryan Sawyer (* 1976 in San Antonio ) is an American rock, jazz and improvisation musician (drums, percussion).

Sawyer began playing drums at the age of eleven, in addition to rock and jazz in conjunto, zydeco and punk rock bands in his hometown. At the age of 19 the first recordings were made with the band At the Drive-In . In 1997 he moved to New York City and played there a. a. in the independent rock and underground folk bands TV on the Radio , Massive Attack , The Fiery Furnaces , Boredoms, The Mekons and with Darius Jones , Thurston Moore , Charles Gayle , Kid Millions and Zeena Parkins . He also works with his own formations Stars Like Fleas, Tall Firs and Eye Contact as well as in the projects Lonewolf & Cub , Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band and in Oso Blanco (with Colin Stetson , C. Spencer Yeh and Nate Wooley ). Sawyer lives in Brooklyn .
