DIW Records
DIW Records is a Japanese jazz and avant-garde record label .
The label
The DIW Records label is a sub-label of the Disc Union company and specializes in jazz and avant-garde music. The label was produced by Kazunori Sugiyama , who later founded the avant-garde label Tzadik with John Zorn . DIW also released the first ten albums of Zorn's Masada project, such as the album Masada: Alef, as well as numerous live recordings from the New York club Soundscape , including Frank Lowe , Bill Laswell's Material , Odean Pope , Arthur Rhames and Sun Ra Arkestra. Zorn's other early albums were released on a DIW sub-label, Avant .
DIW has published the music of the Art Ensemble of Chicago , by Rashied Ali , Geri Allen , Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , Marion Brown , Peter Brötzmann , George Cables , Steve Coleman , Stanley Cowell , Dave Douglas , Steve Grossman , Charlie Hadens Liberation since the 1980s Music Orchestra , John Hicks , ICP Orchestra , Clifford Jordan , Ronald Shannon Jackson , Harold Mabern , David Murray , the Music Revelation Ensemble , James Blood Ulmer , David S. Ware and James Williams . Musicians from the Japanese jazz and improvisation scene, such as Kaoru Abe , Toshinori Kondo , Masahri Yoshida , Otomo Yoshihide and Masayuki Takayanagi , also published at DIW ; the label also re-released some older recordings of 1963 Blossom Dearie ( Sings Rootin 'Songs ) and the 1965 Sunny Murray Trio with Albert Ayler and Don Cherry .
