Aya Shibata is a former Japanese skeleton pilot .
Aya Shibata was nationally and internationally active in skeleton in the late 1990s. In 1996/97 she made her debut in the first women's season of the Skeleton World Cup and was 18th overall. She achieved her best results in the 1997/98 season , starting with ninth place in La Plagne . In February 1998 she achieved her best World Cup result with eighth place in Calgary . In the overall ranking of the season, the Japanese came in eighth. Nationally she won the title of Japanese Champion in 1998 , the following year Shibata was third.
