Bill Pierce

Bill Pierce ( William Watson Pierce Jr .; born September 25, 1948 in Hampton , Virginia ) is an American jazz saxophonist.

Pierce attended Tennessee State University and then the Berklee School of Music , which he graduated in 1972 . While studying, he performed with musicians from the Boston area and toured with Stevie Wonder . In the early 1980s he worked for three years with Art Blakeys Jazz Messengers and worked on ten of their albums. Five albums emerged from his intensive collaboration with Tony Williams . As a band leader, he participated in jazz festivals in the USA, Japan and Europe and recorded eleven other albums. Since 1975 he has been teaching at the Berklee School, where he is now head of the woodwind department.
