Wolfgang Weiler

Wolfgang Weiler (born July 24, 1952 in Andernach ) has been President of the German Insurance Association (GDV) since September 2017 . Before that, he was CEO of the insurance company HUK-Coburg for eight years .

Weiler graduated from high school in Cologne ; then he studied business administration and graduated with a degree in business administration . He was an assistant at the seminar for insurance studies at the University of Cologne and was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD.

Weiler was a lecturer in the insurance department at Cologne University of Applied Sciences . He went to Colonia Versicherung , where he worked as an assistant to the CEO and later as head of corporate auditing and as a data protection officer. He then moved to Cologne Re , where he was in charge of the main finance and accounting department.

In 1988 he moved to HUK-Coburg , where he became general representative . In 1989 he became a board member of HUK-Coburg, responsible for corporate planning, accounting / taxes, capital investments and real estate, as well as old-age and asset provision for life insurance and the building society. On July 1, 2009, he succeeded Rolf-Peter Hoenen as CEO of HUK-Coburg. Weiler retired on July 31, 2017; his successor as board spokesman was Klaus-Jürgen Heitmann .

On September 26, 2017, Weiler was elected as the new association president by the GDV presidium . He succeeded Alexander Erdland , who did not run again.
