Georg Büchner (Manager)

Georg Büchner (born July 28, 1931 in Freiburg i. Br .; † December 25, 2018 ) was a German manager and association official in the insurance industry.

Life

Büchner first studied Latin, German and French, then law at the universities of Tübingen , Munich and Freiburg and joined the legal department of the Württemberg fire insurance in 1959 . In 1969 he was appointed to the board. In 1978 he took over the chairmanship in 1978. After the group was restructured, Büchner became CEO of WürttAG and Württembergische Versicherungs AG in 1991. In 1996 he retired and became Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Württ AG. After the merger with Wüstenrot to form the W&W Group (1999), he was also a member of the supervisory board there until 2006.

Büchner was President of the General Association of the German Insurance Industry from 1979 to 1993 . He was also Vice President and from 1988 to 1992 President of the European Insurance Association Comité Européen des Assurances (CEA) in Paris and for several years chairman of the German Association for Insurance Science in Berlin.

Georg Büchner was married to the entrepreneur Maria Melitta Büchner-Schöpf, with whom he spent his retirement in Karlsruhe.
