Bernhard Schareck

Bernhard "Bernd" Schareck (born December 30, 1944 ) is a German former insurance manager and official. He was CEO of Karlsruher Insurance and between 2003 and 2008 President of the Association of the German Insurance Industry .

Career

Schareck studied business administration at the University of Cologne , where he did his doctorate at the Institute for Organization and Automation . In 1978 he joined the Gerling Group , where he was responsible for group reporting and set up sales controlling. In 1983 he switched to DKV Deutsche Krankenversicherung , where he reorganized sales and, as deputy chairman of the board, pushed ahead with international expansion. In 1991 he became CEO of the Agrippina insurance group, which belongs to the Zurich concern . After this was merged with the German Zurich companies, he moved to Karlsruhe Insurance Company in 1996. There he took over the chairmanship of the board at Karlsruher Lebensversicherung , and in the following year also at the property insurance subsidiary Karlsruher Versicherung . After these were taken over by the financial services group Wüstenrot & Württembergische in 2005 and merged with the respective insurance companies Württembergische Lebensversicherung and Württembergische Versicherung , at the beginning of 2006 he moved to the management board of the holding company there and was responsible for the integration of the companies into the group. At the end of 2007 he retired. He was then a member of the supervisory boards of Württembergische Lebensversicherung and the Karlsruhe life insurance, which was revived as a brand in 2007.

From 1997, Schareck sat in the main committee of life insurance / pension funds at the German Insurance Association. In November 2003 he was elected President of the Association to succeed Bernd Michaels . During his tenure, he represented the industry's interests in reforms of insurance supervisory law and, in particular, insurance contract law . In November 2008 Rolf-Peter Hoenen was appointed as his successor, Schareck remained in the 14-member Presidium for two years. In addition, he temporarily chaired the Association of German Life Insurers and the Karlsruhe Association for the Insurance Industry .

Schareck is married and has two children; his son also works in the insurance industry.
