Alphonse-Hubert de Latier de Bayane (born October 30, 1739 in Valence , † July 27, 1818 in Paris ) was a French cardinal .

Life

Alphonse-Hubert de Latier de Bayane was ordained a priest on March 17, 1760 and was initially pastor at the Cathédrale Saint-Apollinaire de Valence and then vicar general of the diocese of Coutances . He was then abbot of the monastery of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert from 1770 to 1781 . At the same time he was an auditor between 1772 and 1792 and then from March 21, 1792 to August 9, 1802, dean of the Roman Rota (Tribunal Rotae Romanae) , the ordinary court of appeal and, after the apostolic signature, the second highest court of the Roman Catholic Church .

On February 23, 1801 , Pope Pius VII appointed Alphonse-Hubert de Latier de Bayane cardinal in pectore , which was published on August 9, 1802 and the creation of the cardinal became effective. At the same time he was also appointed cardinal deacon of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria on August 9, 1802 . In 1811 the Pope received Cardinal Aurelio Roverella in Savona together with the Cardinals Giuseppe Maria Doria Pamphilj , Antonio Dugnani , Fabrizio Ruffo and Alphonse-Hubert de Latier de Bayane . Cardinal Roverella assumed the leading role in this group of cardinals, who were the actual authors of the papal breve with which Pius VII gave his approval to all the resolutions of the Bishops' Assembly of Paris and the amendment of the Concordat of 1801 with the organic articles . In the spring of 1811, after long negotiations with Cardinal Joseph Fesch , he accompanied Francesco Bertazzoli on the visit of the Pope, who at that time was being held captive by Napoleon Bonaparte in Savona . Bertazzoli was the only companion of the Pope in his captivity and is believed to have contributed to Pius VII signing the Fontainebleau Concordat on January 25, 1813 .
