The Wüstenrot & Württembergische AG (W & W) with headquarters in Stuttgart is a listed financial services group , the majority of the Wüstenrot Foundation belongs. The company emerged in 1999 from the merger of Wüstenrot and Württembergische. Karlsruher Insurance has also been part of the W&W Group since 2005 .

The company is primarily active in the building society and insurance sectors . The main focus is on private and corporate customers. The Wüstenrot Bausparkasse ranks second among the private building societies in terms of the amount of new home loan and savings business. Württembergische Lebensversicherung and Württembergische Versicherung are among the top ten German life and property insurance companies.

The Württembergische Versicherung was established. 1828 The beginnings of the Association of Friends of Wüstenrot (GdF), today Wüstenrot Bausparkasse AG, go back to 1921. It is based in Ludwigsburg and is the oldest building society in Germany. It was named after the small Swabian village of Wüstenrot , where the building society was founded.

In 1999 Wüstenrot merged with Württembergische. The merger to form Wüstenrot & Württembergische created one of the ten leading financial service providers in Germany. Other companies emerged from the merger, including W&W Informatik , which was founded in 2002 . Wüstenrot Lebensversicherung was integrated into Württembergische Lebensversicherung in 2000 .

In 2001 the Wüstenrot Bausparkasse merged with the Leonberger Bausparkasse to form the third largest private building society in Germany. In 2002 the Allgemeine Rentenanstalt Lebensversicherung (ARA), in which the unit-linked business was bundled, merged with the Württembergische Lebensversicherung . In 2003, the securities management of the insurance companies was transferred to W&W Asset Management and the external reinsurance business of Wüstenrot & Württembergische was discontinued and Wüstenrot hypotečni banka was founded in Prague.

In 2005, Wüstenrot Bank and Wüstenrot Hypothekenbank merged to form Wüstenrot Bank AG Pfandbriefbank, based in Ludwigsburg. It is one of the first universal banks with a Pfandbrief license under the new law. In the same year, Wüstenrot & Württembergische acquired the Karlsruher insurance group . In 2006, a modernization course started under the new chairman of the board, Alexander Erdland , after accounting irregularities and market share losses had previously occurred (annual financial statements 2004 and 2005).

Since 2008, the W&W Group has had a newly developed, uniform appearance for both traditional brands. In mid-July 2009, Wüstenrot & Württembergische decided to increase the share capital with new subscription rights for 5,749,538 new shares by around 30 million euros. The company's share capital increased to EUR 481,067,777.39, divided into 91,992,622 no-par value registered shares. The share has been traded on the stock exchange since September 9, 1999. On April 13, 2010 it was announced that the financial group W&W will take over the Allianz Dresdner Bauspar through its subsidiary Wüstenrot Bausparkasse . In September 2010 it was merged with the Wüstenrot Bausparkasse. The company has been listed on the SDAX since March 21, 2016.

On April 3, 2018, it became known that the Wüstenrot Bank subsidiary would be sold to Bremer Kreditbank .

Under the common umbrella of Wüstenrot & Württembergische AG, companies have come together to form a financial services association. As part of a comprehensive modernization program, the W&W Group is positioning itself as a provision specialist for asset accumulation, home ownership, security and risk protection.

The "BausparBank" division consists of Wüstenrot Bausparkasse AG.

The "Insurance" business area consists of Württembergische Versicherung AG , Württembergische Lebensversicherung , Allgemeine Rentenanstalt pension fund, Karlsruher Versicherungen and Württembergische Krankenversicherung .

Service functions for the group take u. a. W&W Asset Management GmbH, W&W Informatik GmbH and W&W Service GmbH.

The company's shares are listed on the Stuttgart and Frankfurt / Main stock exchanges in the official market and on Xetra . A portion of the shares amounting to around 10 percent is held by Horus Finanzholding, and over 20% of the share capital is in free float. Since August 2016, the non-profit Wüstenrot Foundation e. V. its indirect participation in W&W AG amounting to 66.31% in two holding companies instead of the previous one. The Wüstenrot Holding AG holds 38.91%, and the newly formed WS Holding AG 26.40% stake.

Business area W&W brandpool GmbH

In May 2018, the new business area W&W brandpool GmbH started, under which new activities such as the FinanzGuide, treefin or Adam Riese are bundled.

Adam giant

As part of the Group's own digitization strategy, a digital brand was developed for the insurance sector in 2017. After 10 months of development, "Adam Riese" came onto the market on October 26, 2017. Based on Adam Riese , the father of modern computing , the brand name was chosen to illustrate the corporate philosophy “Only that which matters”. 

NIST

Another digital brand from W&W brandpool GmbH is the building finance assistant NIST. NIST was founded in January 2018 in cooperation with BCG DV . According to the company, the concept of the financing certificate was developed as a quick alternative to financing confirmations from lenders.
