Alexander Erdland

Alexander Erdland (born October 10, 1951 in Oelde ) is a German insurance and banking manager and was CEO of the financial services group Wüstenrot & Württembergische AG in Stuttgart from 2006 to 2016 . From November 2012 to September 2017 Erdland was President of the German Insurance Association (GDV).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1970, the son of a farmer completed dual training at the savings and loan fund in Oelde at the Thomas More Gymnasium in Oelde. He then studied business administration and law at the universities of Münster and Saarbrücken and graduated in 1975 with a degree in business administration . From 1975 to 1976 he did a banking internship and university studies in the United States .

From 1976 to 1980, he was a research assistant at the chair for business administration with a focus on finance at the Fernuniversität Hagen . There he did his doctorate in political science and economics (rer. Pol.). He then was head of the executive secretariat, corporate planning and marketing departments at the Norddeutsche Landesgenossenschaftsbank in Hanover . From 1984 he was successively a member of the board of directors of Volksbank Elmshorn, the cooperative central bank Saarbrücken, the cooperative central bank in Hanover and the DG Bank Frankfurt am Main .

In 1999 Erdland became chairman of the board of the Bausparkasse Schwäbisch Hall . In 2006, at his own request, he changed to Wüstenrot & Württembergische AG, which combines the two business areas “BausparBank” and “Insurance”. The group has reorganized itself as a pension specialist with Erdland and increased profits significantly. In terms of the amount of new home loan and savings business, Wüstenrot ranks second among the private home loan associations. At the end of 2016, Erdland handed over his position to his successor Jürgen Albert Junker .

Other engagement

Erdland is a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Board of Trustees of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and at the same time a member of the board of the Hohenheim University Association of the University of Hohenheim .
