Liu Shoubin ( Chinese  刘寿斌 , Pinyin Liú Shòubīn , born March 3, 1968 in Jiangyou , Sichuan Province ) is a former Chinese weightlifter . He won medals at the Olympic Games in 1988 and 1992 and was world champion in 1990 , both in the bantamweight division.

Career

Liu Shoubin, whose origins and development as a weightlifter is unknown, appeared on the international lifting stage in 1986 when he took second place at the Junior World Championships in Donaueschingen with 252.5 kg in bantamweight behind his compatriot Liang Shaofeng. He belongs to the second generation of Chinese weightlifters who rose to the top of the world after the Second World War . The first generation included those lifters who were among the world's best between 1955 and 1965, but were not allowed to show their skills at the Olympic Games or World Championships. For this generation, weightlifting was the end of the line with Mao Zedong's Chinese Cultural Revolution . It then took over 20 years for Chinese weightlifters to become world class again.

Liu Shoubin took second place at the Bantamweight World Championships in Ostrava in 1987 with 275 kg (130-145) behind the Bulgarian Neno Tersiiski , 287.5 kg and showed that he is particularly capable of exceptional performance in snatching. With his 130 kg he became world champion in this individual discipline. In the course of his career he also set two world records in tearing, namely in 1989 in Kemerowo with 134.5 kg and in 1991 in Donaueschingen with 135 kg.

At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 he achieved in a duel 267.5 kg (127.5-140), with which he won the bronze medal behind Oksen Mirsojan , USSR , 292.5 kg and his compatriot He Yingqiang , 287.5 kg .

In 1989, Liu Shoubin increased his duel performance to 285 kg (130-155) and finished second behind Hafis Suleimanoglu from Turkey , who achieved 287.5 kg (130-157.5), and left his compatriot He Yingqiang , 280 kg, behind him.

In 1990 he finished second at the Asian Games in Beijing behind the South Korean Chun Byung-kwan . The performances of the athletes from this competition are unknown. At the 1990 World Championships in Budapest , Liu Shoubin celebrated the greatest success of his career, because he was world champion with 285 kg (130-155) in the duel before He Yingqiang and Chun Byung-kwan.

At the 1991 World Championships in Donaueschingen he lost the duel title to Chun Byung-kwan, although he achieved a new personal best in a duel with 292.5 kg (135-157.5). Chun was just ahead of him at 295 kg (130-165).

Liu Shoubin made his last start in an international championship at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona . There he was by far not in as good shape as in 1991 and only reached 277.5 kg (130 - 147.5) in a duel. This performance was enough to win the silver medal behind Chun Byung-kwan, 287.5 kg (132.5 - 155) .
