He Yingqiang ( Chinese  何英強  /  何英强 , Pinyin Hé Yīngqiáng ; born May 25, 1965 in Yunan , Guangdong ) is a former Chinese weightlifter . He won a silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and a bronze medal in 1992.

Career

He Yingqiang began lifting weights at a sports school in Yunan as a teenager in 1977 . In 1978 he was accepted into the provincial team of Guangdong and in 1983 he was appointed to the Chinese national weightlifting team. He was very light and started as a junior in the flyweight class , later he grew into the bantam or featherweight at a height of 1.60 meters .

In 1981 he became Chinese junior flyweight champion, to which he added the title of Chinese senior champion in the same weight class in 1982. In 1983 he was used at the Asian Flyweight Championships. His exact placement in the duel is not known, but what is known is that he won the Asian championship in pushing. It was also used at the World Seniors Championships in Moscow in 1983 . He started there in the flyweight and achieved a duel performance of 235 kg (102.5-132.5). With this performance he finished 8th.

In 1984, He Yingqiang won the snatch title at the Asian Championship. At the Junior World Championships in Lignano / Italy he achieved the flyweight 237.5 kg (105-132.5) and thus the same performance as the winner Bernard Piekorz from Poland , who was a few grams lighter than him and thus junior world champion has been. Second place remained for He. Interestingly, both Piekorz and He Yingqiang achieved 2.5 kg more in a duel than the 1984 Olympic champion in Los Angeles Zeng Guoqiang , who came to 235 kg there.

1985 He Yingqiang won the world championship in Södertälje , starting in bantamweight for the first time, with 270 kg (120-150) both in the duel and in the two individual disciplines, the bronze medal . The winner there was the Bulgarian Neno Terziiski with 280 kg (122.5–157.5) ahead of the Armenian Oksen Mirsojan , who started for the USSR , who also came to 280 kg (122.5–157.5). In 1986 he increased enormously to 287.5 kg (127.5–160) at the World Championships in Sofia , with which he was 290 kg (127.5–162.5) behind Mitko Grablew , Bulgaria, but ahead of Oksen Mirsojan, 285 kg (125–160) took 2nd place. In the snatch he became world champion with the 127.5 kg he achieved . This was the second world title, after Wu Shude , who became world champion in pushing in 1984, won by a Chinese weightlifter in the history of weightlifting. Before the World Championships in Sofia, He Yingqiang had also won the bantamweight games in 1986 in Seoul, ahead of the 1984 Olympic flyweight champion, his compatriot Zeng Guoqiang and Dirdja Wihardja from Indonesia .

At the 1987 World Cup in Ostrava , he made three failed attempts in snatch, so that he could not achieve a duel. In pushing he came to 160 kg, with which he became vice world champion behind Neno Terziiski, who came to 162.5 kg. At the subsequent Chinese National Games in Guangzhou, he set a new world record in snatching, of all things, weighing 133.5 kg. It was the only world record he set in his career.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he won his duel power 287.5 kg (125 to 162.5) behind Oksen Mirzoyan , who came to 292.5 kg, the silver medal . Mitko Grablew , who had actually won a duel with 295 kg, was subsequently exposed as a doper, but still in Seoul. The gold medal was withdrawn from him.

1989 He Yingqiang came at the World Championships in Athens with 280 kg (125-155) on the 3rd place. He had two failed attempts in pushing with 162.5 kg. Had he succeeded in one of these attempts, he would have become world champion in a duel with 287.5 kg in front of Hafis Suleymanow , USSR , 287.5 kg (130–157.5) and Liu Shoubin , China, 285 kg (130–155). In 1990 he was again winner of the Asian Featherweight Games in Beijing in front of the North Koreans Li Jae-Son and Liao Hsingchou from Thailand . His duel performance from this competition is unknown. At the 1990 World Championships in Budapest he started again in bantamweight and had to give up there in a duel with 285 kg (125-160) his compatriot Liu Shoubin, who also achieved 285 kg (130-155), because of his slightly higher body weight. In pushing he became world champion with the 160 kg he achieved .

In 1991 He Yingqiang finally switched to featherweight and came in this weight class at the World Championships in Donaueschingen with 292.5 kg (132.5-160) in third place behind Naim Süleymanoğlu , Turkey , 310 kg (137.5-172 , 5) and Jurik Sarkisjan , USSR , who achieved 302.5 kg (132.5-170). 1992 was the last year he competed in his career. He started this year in Barcelona for the second time at the Olympic Games and won there in featherweight with 295 kg (130-165) the bronze medal behind Naim Süleymanoğlu, 320 kg (142.5-177.5) and Nikolaj Peschalow from Bulgaria, the 305 kg (137.5-167.5).

When he ended his international career in 1992, He Yingqiang had the longest-running career (10 years) of a Chinese weightlifter behind him. He won a total of three gold medals, five silver medals and twelve bronze medals at the Olympic Games and World Championships, including the Junior World Championships in 1984, for a total of 20 medals. What he was not granted, however, was an Olympic victory or world champion title in a duel.
