Zeng Guoqiang
Zeng Guoqiang ( Chinese 曾 国 强 , Pinyin Zēng Guóqiáng ; born March 18, 1965 in Dongguan , Guangdong Province , People's Republic of China ) is a former Chinese weightlifter . He was an Olympic flyweight champion in 1984 .
Career
Zeng Guoqiang began weightlifting in 1976 in a sports school in what was then the weightlifting stronghold of Dongguan . From 1981 he was called to the Guangdong Provincial Team. In 1983 he joined the Chinese People's Army and in the same year he also became a member of the Chinese National Weightlifting Team.
In 1983 he also competed in his first important international competition. He took part in the Junior World Championship in Cairo . In flyweight he managed 222.5 kg (102.5-120) in a duel, with which he behind Neno Tersziiski from Bulgaria , 257.5 kg (112.5-145) and Bernard Piekorz from Poland , 230 kg (102, 5–127.5) took 3rd place.
In 1984 he became the Asia flyweight champion. No further details are known about this competition. In the same year he was also used at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles , where he was able to seize the opportunity and in the absence of most Eastern Bloc lifters with 235 kg (105–130) in front of his compatriot Zhou Peishun , who also had 235 kg (107 , 5–127.5) scored in a duel, became Olympic flyweight champion. At the same time, he was also world champion in duels and jerks. He was only 19 years old at the time and the first Chinese weightlifter to win an Olympic gold medal.
In 1985 he also took part in the World Championships in Södertälje , Sweden , where he came second in flyweight with 242.5 kg (107.5–135) behind Sewdalin Marinow from Bulgaria , 252.5 kg (112.5–140). Space. In 1986 he finished 2nd at the Asian Games in Seoul in bantamweight behind his compatriot He Yingqian.
After this competition he did not take part in any other international championships. Nothing is known about his further life.
