Career

Zhou Peishun began lifting weights at a sports school in his hometown Taizhou . Because of his good performance, he was accepted into the Jiangsu provincial team in 1977 and the Chinese national weightlifting team in 1982.

As early as 1978 he won the Asian junior championships in the weight class up to 48 kg body weight. His next assignment at an international championship was at the Junior World Championship in Lignano / Italy in 1981 . He took 3rd place in flyweight with 222.5 kg (97.5–125) behind Hadjiew, Bulgaria , 242.5 kg a. Surayamah, Indonesia , 227.5 kg, in front of his compatriot. With his individual achievements he won a bronze medal. At the Chinese championships in 1981, of which his duel results and his placement in the overall standings are unfortunately not known, he won the title of Chinese snatch champion.

Zhou Peishun won the Chinese flyweight league title in 1982. In 1983 he was used at the World Championships in Moscow . Chinese weightlifters competed there for the first time in many years, after Chinese athletes did not compete in the Soviet Union or in most of the so-called Eastern Bloc countries for years due to irreconcilable political differences . He came there in the flyweight duel on 235 kg (107.5-127.5), with which he finished 7th. In the tear he just missed a medal with 107.5 kg with 4th place.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Zhou Peishun was used together with his compatriot Zeng Guoqiang in the flyweight division. Both fought an exciting fight there and achieved 235 kg in a duel. Zhou achieved this result with 107.5 kg in snatch and 127.5 kg in jab, Zeng with 105 kg in snatch and 130 kg in joke. Since Zeng was slightly lighter than Zhou, he won the Olympic gold medal in a duel and Zhou Peishun received the silver medal . The results at these Olympic Games were last seen as a world championship. For this reason, Zhou became world champion in this discipline with his result in snatch .

After these Olympic Games, Zhou Peishun was not at any other international championships. There is a sign of life from him from 2008 when he was torchbearer at the Olympic torch relay in his hometown Taizhou.
